Avery Coonley House – Bedroom Wing

Avery Coonley House – Bedroom Wing

Location: 300 Scottswood Road
Architect: Frank Lloyd Wright
Year: 1908

The Coonley Estate is a quintessential example of Wright’s Prairie Style artchitecture. The original owners were Avery Coonley, an industrialist and his wife, Queene Ferry Coonley, the heiress to the Ferry Seed Company.

Vacant for more than five years, the house was a near-ruin before the current owners extensively restored it, receiving an Olmsted Society award for their work. Notice replaced roof, gutters and wood trim; repaired all exterior stucco and repainted; extensive interior repairs and restoration.

An exquisite courtyard garden features a lily pond and pergola with Asian accents reminiscent of Wright’s design influences.
