Housewalk 2014: SUSTAINABILITY: THEN & NOW

SUSTAINABILITY: THEN & NOW

Housewalk 2014

Sunday June 1, 2014
Noon to 5:00PM
Riverside, Illinois

Picturesque and pleasantly walkable, historic Riverside is the ideal community within which to survey how concepts of sustainable living have changed over time. Our 2014 Housewalk, Sustainability: Then and Now, features nine homes ranging from Victorian to contemporary green-build construction, with an emphasis on sustainable materials and design. As you tour inside the gracious homes pictured below, docents will explain the nitty-gritty of the applicable solar, geothermal, rainwater management and hidden technical considerations by reference to professional display boards. For an overview of the architecture, history and sustainable aspects of each of these homes, just click on the photo.

This year’s housewalk featured exterior tours of a 1933 Century of Progress Home and homes exploring the how-to’s of DIY solar energy, EV charging stations and lush rain gardens are also included. All nine homes within a 2 mile radius, which made for an enjoyable stroll or bike ride.

Thank you to all who participated in this event. Also many thanks to our sponsors and community partners for making the Sustainability Fair a tremendous success. A total of 59 bicycles were donated to Working Bikes for re-purposing! To learn more about our sponsors, click here.
