Mother Nature and the River
by Olivia Liu, Blythe Park, 5th Grade
Mother Nature and the River
Nature, the gentlest mother, sheds her grace on this river
She scatters her emerald stones onto the trees
And carves their amber trunks
She paints with many colored brushes
Across the tranquil surface
She paints the colorless flowers that caress the water
Softly
Blazing in gold and quenching in purple
She gives the bee his music
To hum softly in the children’s air
She gives the spider his sketches
To spin in his glistening web
She directs the sun to let his light shine
On the darkest of places
She organizes the moon to dance with the wind
Who so joyfully whips around
Mother Nature has left her light on this place
For us to enjoy
