The Sweep and the Curve will discuss a brief history of the town and challenges us to view Riverside not only in historical context, but also as a model of sustainability that needs care and stewardship. Join us for this engaging, illustrated presentation given by Charles Pipal, a practicing architect, historian and award-winning professor in Historic Preservation and Architecture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Presenter’s Bio:

Charles Pipal is a practicing architect, historian and award-winning professor in Historic Preservation and Architecture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he has taught since 1999. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s degree in Architecture with a concentration in Historic Preservation, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a past board member of Landmarks Illinois, and is the current Chair of the Riverside Preservation Commission. Prof. Pipal’s particular professional and academic focus has been on the documentation and rehabilitation of historic buildings and the interpretation of historic sites.
