Landscape Workday: Prescribed Burns in Riverside

Trained FLOS Members assisted Michael Collins, Village Forester, and Public Works employees in performing prescribed burns on March 22 and 23, 2018.

Controlled burns are very beneficial. Burns are helpful for invasive plant control, providing nutrients to the soils and encouraging native plant growth.

On March 22 burns were conducted in the areas of Scout Cabin and Indian Gardens. On March 23 we moved to Riverside Road where we burned from Miller Woods almost to the Swinging Bridge.

Even though the ground is blackened now, in a short period of time it will be back to normal.
