Olmsted Overlook

On Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. the Frederick Law Olmsted Society hosted a ribbon-cutting for the Olmsted Overlook. Located on Swan Pond Bluff between the Presbyterian Church and Hofmann Dam, the Overlook was planted by the Olmsted Society and community volunteers last spring. It consists of a specially designed grove of native trees overlooking the Des Plaines River. It is the newest homage to Riverside’s founder, Frederick Law Olmsted, whose nationwide birthday anniversary was celebrated during the last year.

The Village of Riverside has recently installed a bench to enhance the viewing and contemplative nature of the Overlook. Olmsted Society members continue to water the trees during the growing season, and the site has become a haven for migrating birds.
