Thursday, May 2, 2019
7:00PM
Riverside Public Library
Dr. M. Ross Alexander of Midwest Dendro, LLC and Dr. Christine Rollinson, of The Morton Arboretum, described their wide-ranging study of trees in the area and how climate change may be reflected in their growth. The technology they use can also date old beams in houses and buildings to approximate the age of a structure. As part of the study, the scientists have taken core samples of some veteran Riverside trees and can tell us with a great degree of precision how old the tree is.
The winner of the “How Old is that Oak Contest” was also be announced at this presentation.
Sponsored by the Library, the Landscape Advisory Commission and the Frederick Law Olmsted Society.
