FREDERICK LAW OLMSTED SOCIETY LANDSCAPE WORKDAY

Please join us to help beautify Riverside by removing Buckthorn between the sidewalk & the Des Plaines River along Riverside Road !

Saturday, October 1st, 2011
9am – 12pm
Along Riverside Road near Olmsted Road

On August 13th & September 17th, dozens of volunteers removed Buckthorn & grapevine to reveal a view of our river. Our goal is to open up the view along the entire length of Riverside Road & into Miller Woods. To accomplish this, we will remove Buckthorn, apply herbicide to stumps & in the spring, conduct prescribed burns. With the invasive weeds removed, we found numerous natives species such as cup plant, solomon’s seal, wild indigo, woodland sunflower, dozens of oak tree seedlings, elm leaved goldenrod, riverbank wild rye, switchgrass & wafer ash. Come see for yourself!

Future Workdays:

Triangle at Scottswood & Millbridge: Oct 22nd (location change)

Riverbank: Nov 12th

All workdays are scheduled for Saturdays from 9am-12pm. Look for the Riverside Public Works dump truck. Come for an hour or three, whatever your schedule allows. Supervised children are welcome. Service hour credits are available. Bring your favorite work gloves & a water bottle. All other supplies & snacks will be provided.

Thanks in advance,
