Caretaker’s Cottage

Caretaker’s Cottage

Location: 308 Fairbank Road
Architect: Original: William Drummond and Louis Guenzel Restoration: John Vinci
Year: 1913

The cottage was built at the same time and by the same architects as the adjoining building, Thorncroft. Also of the Prairie School of architecture, it features an asymmetrical, one story form, a low-pitched, hipped roof and wide eaves.

William Drummond joined Frank Lloyd Wright in 1899 and worked with him in his studio until 1909.

The Caretaker’s Cottage was carefully restored in 1990 under the supervision of noted restoration architect John Vinci, who also designed the garden deck.
