Riverside’s Beauty: Reflections of a First Grader
I’m seven and
Growing up in Riverside.
I love it here;
It’s full of pride.
Beautiful trees, flowers
A river, too –
Natural beauty
gives us much to view.
Trees are our friends;
We want them to stay.
They surround our school playground,
Where we like to learn and play.
For their shade,
Air recycling and protection – we thank;
Without any trees,
Out world would be blank.
Summer, fall,
Winter and spring –
Seasons in Riverside
Are the greatest thing!
From blooms to grass
To leaves to snow,
Riverside helps me
– And nature – to grow
In spring,
We enjoy welcoming buds;
Summer often brings
Des Plaines River floods.
It’s fun to collect
Colorful leaves in the fall.
And in winter,
Sledding down Library Hill is a ball!
Its windy streets
Keep outsiders away.
It works out well
So we in Riverside can play.
As a Pack 24 Cub Scout,
I promise to do my part.
Planting seeds, recycling
And doing what’s smart.
I thank Frederick Law Olmsted
For designing my town.
His plans were really brilliant
Like the jewels of a crown.
As my birthplace,
Riverside is special to me.
I look forward to more fun years here
with my friends and family.
