Annual Meeting January 15, 2010

The Frederick Law Olmsted Society would like to thank everyone who attended our Annual Meeting January 15, 2010 at Township Hall. Over 100 guests joined us to celebrate a succussful 2009 and kick-start what looks to be an even better 2010!

The evening began with the unveiling of the houses for the 2010 Housewalk: Babson to Baltis. Featuring mid-century modern architecture, this year’s walk will be centered on the Gatesby Circle. Featured this year is a tour of the Purcell and Elmslie designed residence which stands as one of the few surviving components of the Babson Estate.

Committee reports were highlighted by recognition awards to the many local youth groups who volunteered hundreds of hours during our workdays. Recipients included local Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Daisies and the Central School Ecology Club.

Olmsted Spirit Awards were given to key contributors to Riverside’s Arcade Mural Projects. Recipients included the Riverside-Brookfield High School, the Riverside Arts Center, project coordinator Bob Faust and the Village of Riverside.

Nominations to the Olmsted Board were followed by our keynote speaker, Matthew Evans, a landscape architect who follows in the footsteps of Frederick Law Olmsted as Landscape Architect for the United States Capitol.
